Michigan Bio Diesel located in Bangor, Michigan is
helping reduce our dependence on oil by using our
home grown produce to enhance diesel fuel. In the
production of Bio Diesel there is a lot of excess heat
generated that would normally use in excess of 12
ton of cooling. Rather than use more energy to cool
this low temperature water with a cooling tower Betz
with MSU elected to design a combination radiant
snow melt and building heating system. The system
can utilize close to 5,000,000 BTU/HR of free energy
to Melt Snow around the storage tanks, truck
loading docks, side walks and heat the buildings.
The safety of their personnel came first as to
prevent falls in the icy containment walls as well as
not having to remove snow and ice that would build
quickly around such large tanks. Special attention
has been taken to utilize the most energy possible
to lower operating cost, maintenance cost and
increase equipment longevity. (details to follow).
