Grand Haven Cottages are located in Grand
Haven, Michigan. Matt Higgs of the Macomb
Group worked with Jerry Schauer of Contractors
Mechanical to layout a snow melt system for the
drives and sidewalks within the condominiums
grounds. With such high cost of water front land
there was no room to allow plowing for snow
removal; and with such high snow fall rates
commonly seen in Western Michigan lake fronts,
a 2,500,000 BTU/HR Snow Melt System was
designed.
Two Lochinvar Boilers provide several Patterson
Pumps with 30% glycol at 100F, Caleffi provides
Micro Bubble Discal Air removal and hydronic
separator to achieve minimal maintenance and
long life of all the system components. Innovex
Building Management provides the boiler control
as well as the snow melt operation. Controlling
return water temperature to allow for the most
efficient and lowest supply temperature; as well
as using air temperature, slab temperature and
moisture to idle and operate the snow melt as
effective and cost efficient as possible.
